Detective Staff Sergeant Adam Girard

Adam’s personal life is intertwined with warmth and familial bonds. He’s married to Ruby, his rock and confidant, and they share the joys of parenthood with two energetic sons, Steven and Allan, as well as a beloved daughter named Ruthie. The presence of his mother, Rose, alongside his grandparents, Ayamis and Jean, living in a granny flat in their backyard, highlights his strong ties to his Indigenous heritage and family values.

His amiable and laid-back nature reflects in his approach to life and work. Adam genuinely enjoys his role as a homicide detective and harbors no ambitions for climbing the police hierarchy. His camaraderie with his boss, Caitlin Murphy, fosters a collaborative and harmonious working relationship within the team.

Unveiling another layer of Adam’s identity, he proudly identifies as Métis, with his mother hailing from the Cree community, while his grandparents are from the Saskatchewan Road Allowance people. This heritage adds depth to his character, providing insight into his cultural roots and the complexities of identity.

In her downtime, she’s an avid reader, an enthusiast of stamp collecting, and possesses a passion for unraveling cryptic puzzles. Her keen eye for detail and ability to spot nuances that often elude others make her an invaluable asset to the team.

The move from Winnipeg to Muskoka was not just a geographical change; it was a profound shift away from a place marred by significant racism. Cleo sought solace and inclusivity in her new environment after hearing about Caitlin Murphy’s leadership style, characterized by care and empathy for her detectives.

As the narrative unfolds, Cleo Hamilton’s character will evolve, revealing the complexities of her background and her determination to overcome adversity. Her presence will undoubtedly add depth and intrigue to the compelling storyline of Murder at Sunny Lake.

Homicide Detective Constable 2nd class Michael Parker

Homicide Detective Constable 2nd class Michael Parker is a dynamic addition to the Muskoka homicide unit, bringing a mix of vigor and technical expertise to the team. Born in 1989, he embarked on his journey in the homicide division in November 2022.

Michael is a single, heterosexual man with a strong commitment to physical fitness. His love for running not only keeps him in peak condition but also serves as an outlet for his energy and drive. He has a genuine passion for food and cherishes the experience of sharing a meal with others, fostering camaraderie among his colleagues.

In the realm of technology, Michael stands out as the most computer literate among the detectives, offering a valuable skill set for modern investigative work. His affable and open-minded nature makes him a welcoming presence within the team, fostering an atmosphere of collaboration and respect.

As the narrative unfolds, Michael Parker’s character will continue to evolve, revealing more layers of his personality and how his unique qualities contribute to the intriguing dynamics of the investigative team.

Delaney “Del” Brice, Caitlin’s Wife

Delany Brice, affectionately nicknamed Del, is a character that adds depth and resilience to the narrative in Murder at Sunny Lake. Born in 1974, Del’s life took a dramatic turn in 1998 when a devastating car accident left her paraplegic and tragically claimed the life of her fiancé.

Despite the life-altering accident, Del exhibits remarkable strength and adaptability. She relies on an electric wheelchair for mobility, embodying a spirit that refuses to be confined by physical limitations. Her journey took an unexpected turn when she reconnected with her university friend, Caitlin Murphy, ultimately leading to their marriage in 2015. Their union, motivated by Del’s need for additional health benefits, serves as a testament to their pragmatic and deeply caring relationship, despite its non-sexual nature.

Del’s artistic talent shines through her successful art studio and gallery, providing a creative outlet for her boundless spirit. Her artistic endeavors are complemented by her unique ability to fly a Piper Cherokee plane, thanks to customized hand controls. This achievement showcases her determination and ability to soar beyond boundaries.

As a supportive partner, Del possesses a profound understanding of Caitlin’s romantic interests and encourages her wife to pursue happiness, even when it involves dating women. Del is well aware of Caitlin’s struggle with PTSD, offering unwavering support in every facet of her life.

Sunita “Sun” Kumar Caitlin’s Love Interest

Sunita Kumar, affectionately nicknamed Sun, emerges as a vibrant and multifaceted character within the narrative. As the owner and operator of Sun Flowers, a flourishing floral shop in Kettering, she adds a unique dimension to the story.

Sun, a bisexual woman, carries a history marked by resilience and transformation. Born in India in 1979, she embarked on a life-changing journey when she moved to Quebec, Canada, with her husband. Unfortunately, their marriage was short-lived, leading to her husband’s departure. Faced with adversity, Sun used her skills to survive and thrive in.

Despite the hardships she’s faced, Sun saved her money and once she had enough for  for her kids and to start a business. Her indomitable spirit led her to a fresh start. In 2018, she relocated to Muskoka, pursuing her passion for flowers and plants by becoming a skilled florist. Her profound knowledge of botanicals, combined with her generally sensual nature, allows her to experience joys and pleasures in the world that others might miss.

Sun’s love for aesthetics extends beyond her floral creations. She revels in the visual and olfactory beauty of the natural world, savoring the sensory experiences it provides. Her appreciation for life’s pleasures doesn’t stop at flowers; she delights in the pleasures of both food and intimacy.

Beneath her sensual exterior lies a passionate and occasionally fiery temperament. However, Sun is not one to shy away from acknowledging her mistakes and offering sincere apologies when warranted.

As her character unfolds in Murder at Sunny Lake, Sun will bring an intriguing blend of sensuality, resilience, and secrecy to the narrative. Her past and her blossoming relationship with Caitlin Murphy add depth to the story, making her an unforgettable presence in the tale.
